Frog Collection - Frog cloisonne

Frog cloisonne on a wooden pedestal

Cloisonné is a style of decorative enamelwork in which metal filaments are fused to the surface of an object to outline a design that is painted with enamel pastes of different colors. The object is then heated in a kiln to fuse the enamel to the object and produce a glassy surface. Cloisonné first developed in the jewelry of the ancient Near East during the 12th century. Examples of this type of work are expensive due to the many hours of time-consuming manual labor required to create an object.
