Tony Cheng's Seafood Restaurant is located in the heart of Chinatown on the second floor of 619 H Street, NW, Washington, DC 20007. The first floor of the building has Tony Cheng's Mongolian barbeque restaurant. The location is half a block east from the Gallery Place metro station and the Chinatown Gate.
The ample interior of the restaurant has a floor covered with red carpet. The tables are covered with white tablecloths, and gold trimmed chairs are upholstered with an elegant red fabric. A tank with live lobsters is in the center of the room. A large bar is located toward the back of the restaurant.
As soon as you are seated, the waiter brings a pot of hot tea. The Beef with Chef's Garlic Sauce is served with a side dish of steamed rice. The beef dish was very tasty. The rice had a few grains that were hard. This usually happens when steamed rice is not covered and becomes dehydrated.
The Fried Calamari was perfectly fried and had just the right amount of green jalapeño slices and green onions to give it a moderately spicy taste. This dish is also served with white rice.
Overall, the quality of the food was good. I am sure that if I had complained about the rice they would have replaced it. At the end of the meal, the waiter brought a plate with Chinese fortune cookies and slices of orange.
