The Mai Thai Restaurant offers Thai cuisine in two locations in Washington, D.C. and one location in Alexandria, Virginia. I visited the Mai Thai restaurant near DuPont circle at 1200 19th St. NW, Washington, DC 20036. The restaurant is open daily for lunch and dinner.
The first impression upon entering the Mai Thai restaurant is that it is dimly lit, but well decorated with Thai motifs. The restaurant is clean and furnished with elegant booths and well-padded seats.
The outside of the restaurant has a wide sidewalk that is used for outdoor tables during good weather.
The bar area has comfortable stools facing a large-screen television.
The main dining area has a bronzed statue in front of large bowl with floating flower petals. Four rows of booths are separated by illuminated frosted glass. The ceiling has wooden beams that match the wood of the tables.
The physical decor of the Mai Thai restaurant was beautiful, but the food was good but not exceptional. The pepper steak that I ordered was flavorful, but the meat was tough. However, the presentation with the shredded carrots and beets was good.
The soft shell crab was also good but the sauce was not as tasty as that in other Thai restaurants.
