The Grapeseed American Bistro offers American cuisine at 4865 Cordell Avenue, Bethesda, MD 20814. The restaurant is open for dinner starting at 5 PM Monday through Saturday. It is closed on Sundays. Price Range: $$$.
The Grapeseed American Bistro and Wine Bar has a modern look with straight lines dominating the architecture and furnishings. The bar area has tables covered with placemats and the main dining room has tables covered with white tablecloths. The restaurant also has some booths and two private dining rooms. The place gets crowded and it is a good idea to make reservations.
A basket of bread and a chunky tomato sauce with garlic and oil is brought to your table while your order is prepared.
Although the restaurant is called an American bistro, the list of appetizers includes house-made gnocchi and Korean BBQ beef tips.
The Fricassee of Wild Mushrooms is prepared with sherry vinegar on a bed of truffled polenta.
The Cornmeal Fried Oysters are presented on a slightly sweet butter sauce with smoked bacon.
The Shrimp Etouffee with white rice is mildly spicy and reminiscent of some of the Cajun seafood dishes from Louisiana.
The Grilled Hanger Steak with Frites (fried potatoes) is served with the house steak sauce. The potatoes are fried with their skin, which gives them a home-cooked taste.
The Chocolate Cremeaux is like a thick chocolate mousse served on devil's food crumb and topped with a drizzle of orange caramel. This dessert has a very rich chocolate flavor.
The Tres Leches Cake, which is Spanish for "Three Milks" cake, is a white cake topped with peaches, blueberries and vanilla ice cream. Ice cream and whipped cream are two of the "milks". I don't know what the third one is, but it could be sour cream or yogurt.
