The Biergarten Haus Restaurant offers German food and beer at 1355 H Street NE, Washington, DC 20002. The restaurant is open Mon-Thu 4pm-12am, Fri 4pm-2:30am, Sat 11am-2:30am and Sun 11am-12am.
The Biergarten Haus recreates the atmosphere of a German beer garden. It is a very busy place when there are good games on TV because it is also a sports bar with several projection TV screens.
The Biergarten Haus is divided into several areas. The main building has a bar downstairs and another one upstairs. An adjacent building has a dining hall with several TV projection screens, and next to it is a patio with many rustic tables and umbrellas.
The Biergarten Haus has a good selection of sausages (Wurst), schnitzel, sandwiches, and vegetarian and meat entrées.
The Atlantic Salmon is pan-roasted and served with mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables, such as Brussels sprouts.
You can select from approximately sixteen different types of German beer. The beer is sold in half-liter and one-liter mugs. Non-alcoholic beer is also available. When I visited the Biergarten Haus, two tables next to me had several German-speaking customers. That, along with the German music in the background and the typical German food and drink, gave me the feeling of an authentic German beer garden.
The Biergarten Haus has three different kinds of sausages, and you have the option of ordering platters with one, two or three sausages (wurst). The bratwurst is a pork sausage with caraway seeds and garlic. The bauernwurst sausage has smoked pork and veal. The knackwurst is made from veal, pork and fresh garlic. The sausage platters are served with a bread roll, potato cakes, sauerkraut and spicy mustard.
