The Amici Miei Restaurant offers Italian cuisine at 1093 Seven Locks Road, Potomac, MD 20854. The restaurant is open for lunch, dinner and weekend brunch.
The name of the restaurant Amici Miei means "Friends of ours", and indeed you can see that regular customers are treated like friends and new customers are greeted warmly.
The restaurant has a bar with a large selection of domestic and imported wines.
The dining area is ample and the chairs are comfortable.
A basket of warm bread is brought to your table after you have ordered. Also, the waiter pours some olive oil on a small plate for dipping the bread.
The Grilled Hanger Steak with roasted shallot and chestnut demi-glace, served with roasted potatoes and sautéed spinach was an excellent choice. The steak was tender, well seasoned, and had the faint smoky aroma of the wood burning oven. The chestnut demi-glace was somewhat sweet for this dish.
The Baked Branzino with roasted fennel, potato and black olive pesto is only offered as a weekend special. This fish dish was definitely bland. The lemon juice and black olive pesto were not enough to give this dish a high rating on taste although the presentation was good.
The Braised Pork Ossobuco in tomato sauce with lemon and orange zest, toasted pine nuts, served with soft polenta and sautéed spinach was a very good dish. The meat was tender and flavorful. The polenta and spinach provided a good accompaniment for the meat.
The menu did not list the desserts, but they included Crème Brûlée, a chocolate brownie with vanilla gelato that was more like a crumbly cup cake rather than the typical chewy gooey brownie, and a flour-less chocolate almond cake. I would have posted a photograph of the almond cake, but it was so good that we had eaten it by the time that we thought about photographing it.
