Beef Stew

Beef stew is one of those meals that satisfies the hungriest person. This simple but delightful combination of beef with root vegetables is very tasty.

Beef Stew

1 pound beef (chuck steak)
1 large onion
2 cloves of garlic
4 medium potatoes
2 carrots
1/2 cup mushrooms
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp salt
2 teapoons marjoram or savory
1 tablespoon olive oil or other cooking oil
3/4 cup water

Cut the meat and all the vegetables into 1-inch cubes. Heat the oil in a cast-iron Dutch oven on top of the stove until it almost smokes. Sear the meat cubes, stirring constantly. When the meat is no longer pink, add the garlic and onion. Continue stirring until the onion is transparent. Add the rest of the ingredients and stir. Put a tight-fitting lid on the Dutch oven and place in the middle rack of an oven preheated to 350° F. Bake for approximately one hour and a half. Once the meat is tender, mash a couple of the potato cubes to thicken the liquid and make gravy. Stir, and serve.
