Plaza Azteca is a chain of restaurants with locations along the East Coast. The restaurant at this location is fairly new, and it is just north of Montgomery Mall behind a Home Depot store. It is not visible from the road.
The tables are set with white tablecloths and red napkins. A couple of TV screens hang on top of the bar.
The waiter brings some corn chips and salsa after your order is taken. The salsa was not spicy at all, but you can ask the waiter for an habanero sauce to make it as spicy as you wish.
The chile con queso appetizer is typically a cheese like Monterey Jack melted with a spicy Mexican sausage (chorizo). This appetizer had fried onions with the chorizo. Soft flour tortillas accompanied the appetizer.
The beef fajitas are grilled with green bell peppers and onions and brought sizzling to your table. The fajitas are served with pico de gallo salsa, flour tortillas, refried beans, rice, guacamole and sour cream on the side. The beef fajitas are made from skirt steak which is the authentic Mexican tradition.
The soft-shelled crabs were tasty. Chipotle is a smoked ripe jalapeƱo pepper. The sauce had a mild sweet flavor. The crabs were served with white rice, steamed broccoli and a small bowl of black beans.
