Chef Tony's Restaurant offers Mediterranean seafood and tapas at 4926 St. Elmo Avenue, Bethesda, MD 20814. The restaurant is closed on Monday and open for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Sunday.
Chef Tony's restaurant is across a public parking garage. You can park there or at a parking meter on the street.
The front part of the restaurant has a painted concrete floor which felt sticky and made a bad first impression. A second room had ceramic tile floors that seemed clean.
The waiters are very attentive and upon being seated they bring warm pita bread and olive oil to the table.
The Crispy Calamari appetizer is flash fried and accompanied with marinated sweet peppers garnished with lemon basil. The dish is comes with a little dish of aioli sauce. The calamari was served on a double layer of paper on a conical wire pedestal. I had to transfer the calamari to a plate to be able to stab them with a fork without having to worry about poking a hole in the paper. The dish was very tasty.
The Cream of Crab Soup was somewhat salty and had the consistency of a thick gravy. I did not like the texture, and the taste was not remarkable.
The Sottish Salmon Pasta has chunks of salmon, artichoke hearts, fresh tomatoes and basil pesto cream mixed with linguini cooked al dente.
The Spicy Shrimp Pasta was fabulous! The linguini was cooked al dente. The shrimp was pan seared and the spicy tomato cream sauce with sweet peppers was truly delicious. The chunkiness of the sauce added a very good texture to the dish.
The Chocolate Sin Cake is made of Belgian chocolate, expresso and cream. It has a nice fudgy flavor with a good balance of sweetness and bitterness.
Sonia's Vanilla Cheesecake has a creamy texture and a very good thick walnut crunch crust. The cake is topped with a strawberry malbec sauce.
