The Afghan Kabob House Restaurant offers authentic Afghan cuisine at 2045 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington, VA 22201, across from the Arlington Courthouse. The restaurant is open every day of the week, Sunday through Thursday from 11 AM to 10 PM, and Friday and Saturday from 11 AM to 3 AM. Parking is available in the back.
The interior of the restaurant is clean and well lit. You place your order at the cash register and select your side dishes. They will call you to pick up your order when it is ready. The food is served on styrofoam dishes and you can get plastic knives and forks from the self-serve counter. The service arrangement is very similar to what you would find at a fast-food place like McDonald's, but the food is much better.
The kabobs are ready in about 8 minutes after you order and they are served hot off the grill with freshly baked Tandoori Naan (Afghan Bread). The choices for the skewers are beef, lamb, salmon, Chopan kabob (lamb chops), chicken breast, bone-in chicken, boneless dark meat chicken, Ground beef (Shami) and ground chicken breast.
The Lamb Kabob consists of chunks of tenderloin lamb, marinated in special herbs and spices, broiled over charcoal.
You may choose between four types of rice: Brown Rice, Brown Rice with carrots and raisins, Yellow Rice flavored with cumin and Spinach Rice. The choices of vegetables include: Spinach, Eggplant, Chick Peas, Potato Curry, Lentils and Cauliflower.
The Combo Kabob is a combination of any two skewers of Chicken Breast, Lamb, Beef, Shami (Ground beef), Bone-in Chicken, Boneless dark meat and Sam's kabob (Ground chicken breast). Baklava is the only dessert listed on the menu.
The quality of the food was excellent. Call the Afghan Kabob House restaurant at (703) 294-9999. Find more information about the restaurant at its web site: www.afghankabobhouse.org
