If you want to be a successful fashion designer, you have to choose models that will display your fashion line with confidence and grace. The modeling world is very competitive. Only models with good looks, energy, and poise get into the ranks of supermodels. For aspirants with talent, modeling can open doors into the world of business or movies. Fame is not easy to come by. Every successful model at one point or another had a special break or opportunity that changed her life. Here are some familiar faces from the world of fashion.

Cindy Crawford

Cynthia "Cindy" Crawford has retained her good looks even though she has had two children. She is 5 feet 9 inches tall and has a voluptuous figure. A small, tantalizing mole by her lips is a salient feature of her beautiful face. Cindy has been on the cover of more than 600 magazines worldwide. In spite of her world-renowned beauty, her attempts in the movie industry were a financial disappointment.

Tyra is an example of a dynamic woman who has made her own opportunities. She first became as a model in Paris, Milan, London, Tokyo, and New York. Her big break came when she started making television appearances. She became the host of the reality television show America's Next Top Model in 2003. She currently has her own talk show, The Tyra Banks Show. She was criticized for gaining a lot of weight at one point in her career, but she got back in good form and showed the critics that she was not intimidated. Her strength of character and perseverance have assured her success.

Claudia Schiffer   Danish little mermaid

Claudia Schiffer was born in Rheinberg, Germany. She has appeared in over 500 magazine covers. She was particularly popular during the 1990s due to her close resemblance to Brigitte Bardot. This photograph shows her sitting precariously on the edge of a boat as seagulls feast on a school of fish in the background. The pose is reminiscent of the Danish Little Mermaid sculpture designed by Edvard Eriksen in 1913.

Iman and Josephine

Iman Abdulmajid was born in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1955. She is famous as a high-fashion model with a slim frame and a serene face. She married rock musician David Bowie in 1992.  Iman owns a cosmetics company and has had roles in films such as L.A. Story (1991), starring Steve Martin, and Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country (1991), starring William Shatner. This picture of Iman and Josephine was taken at a book-signing ceremony in 2005.
